Named after George S. Sands, on the street named after him. He attended the Cortland Normal School when it opened in 1869, and in May of 1870, he entered the law office of M.M. Waters to study law for three years. He was admitted to the bar in 1873. George was elected to the position of town clerk for two years and served as justice of the peace for six years.
